Smith Wesson Age By Serial Number

I've been drooling (figuratively ) over a 'Dirty Harry' Smith & Wesson 6 1/2' model 29-2 w/ PB, TT, TH, & RC serial numbered N63xxx at a nearby shop, and am curious re its date of manufacture. All sorts of references -- oldguns.net being my favorite -- for dates on all sorts of firearms, but I cannot seem to find any site/source for this Smith & Wesson firearms!
Might you direct me to a source -- other than sending $75.00 to S&W -- where I might look up/ascertain its age? (Or, better yet if you know, and will provide info to me!)
Thanks much!!!

I have a Smith & Wesson 30 Special CTG, serial #50633, 3 inch barrel. I was wondering when this may have been manufactured. It has no model number anywhere on the frame or underneath the grips.

How To Tell A Guns Age By Serial Number

  1. Smith & Wesson date of manufacture by serial number? I purchased my SWMP40 in April, on the case it came in the 'born-on' date actually appears on the box label next to the serial number in the form yjjj where y is a single digit representation of the year, e.g. 6 = 2006, 7 = 2007, etc. And jjj is a three digit day-of-year date.
  2. SW99 - The serial number is located on the frame at the rear of the pistol. For long guns manufactured in the early 1980's, please contact the following dealers for parts and service. Smith & Wesson discontinued these models and no longer has a parts inventory.
